This feature will let the user to "Set custom time" from the compose view of the gmail mailbox. Any mail you send to the past appears in the proper chronological order in your recipient's inbox. You can opt for it to show up as read or unread by the selecting the appropriate option.

Gmail plans to offer only 10 mails can be sent from one gmail account per year. so the user needs to use this feature wisely ;)
